Dr. Tejal Patel has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University since July 2010. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019. Her adminstrative roles have included Hamilton Site Coordinator for Behaviour Science (2012-2015) and co-head of service obstetrics for the Department of Family Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital (2013-2016). Dr. Patel is currently the physician director of the Maternity Centre of Hamilton and the maternal child rotation coordinator at the Hamilton site.
Dr. Patel divides her clinical time between the Maternity Centre of Hamilton, a multidisciplinary centre caring for prenatal and intrapartum patients, and McMaster Family Practice.
Dr. Patel is actively involved in the education of primary care obstetrics at both the undergraduate and post graduate medical school levels. Her research focuses on gaining a better understanding of the complex biopsychosocial backgrounds of young mothers and the influence that has on maternal and neonatal health as well as mental illness in the ante and postpartum periods.
