CFPC Awards of Excellence - Part One
A number of our faculty have recently won significant awards. We asked each of the recipients to provide a brief sentence or two about what winning their award means to them. This week, our focus is on Drs. Yelena Chorny and Caroline Collins:
Dr. Yelena Chorny — Award of Excellence
“This award represents two years of collaboration with multiple local agencies to improve access to medical treatment of substance use disorders in Guelph, Kitchener, and Cambridge. I am grateful for the opportunity to fill a previously unmet need in the community, to work with passionate colleagues, and to continually challenge stigma toward people who use substances”
Dr. Caroline Collins – Award of Excellence
“I am very honoured to be a recipient of a CFPC Award of Excellence. I believe that what we do day to day requires not only compassion but also passion. I am so thankful to be surrounded by colleagues of a similar mindset who are passionate not only about quality patient care, but also teaching, our hospitals, health policy, and medical ethics.” Dr. Caroline Collins is a Family Doctor at Brameast Family Physicians in Brampton. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor in McMaster’s Department of Family Medicine and was a Mental Health and Behavioural Science Tutor for 9 years. She is currently the Sub-
Region Clinical Lead for Bramalea for the Central West LHIN. She practiced Primary Care Obstetrics for 11 years. The Award of Excellence was awarded for her work and leadership in establishing the Women’s clinics at Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, William Osler Health System, including the Early Pregnancy clinic, Maternity Care clinic, Mother and Baby clinic, and Women’s Mental Health clinic. In her free time she loves to Zumba, learn Spanish, read, travel and Lego with her kids and husband.
