New for July 2019 — Stay healthy while you travel!

The brand new Travel Clinic at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre offers travelers consults so they can get health advice and receive vaccinations before their adventures abroad.

Ashleigh McCullagh-Cheung, MB BCh BAO, CCFP, is both up-to-date and passionate about travel health. She holds an MSc in Global Health and Development (University College London, UK, 2014) and she obtained her Certificate in Travel Health (International Society of Travel Medicine, 2019).

The Clinic is located at the McMaster Downtown Ambulatory Care Centre, on the 4th floor at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre, 100 Main Street West, Hamilton. Dr. McCullagh-Cheung recommends that you are seen 4-6 weeks before your travel. Appointments will be offered in person on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Consults will take approximately 40 minutes.

Dr. McCullagh-Cheung also offers travel consults via telemedicine. Virtual consults are available to everyone and will provide those outside the Greater Hamilton area access to timely pre-travel advice. There is daytime, evening and weekend availability. If you select this type of appointment, you can connect with our physician via smartphone, tablet or computer. Should you need vaccines or other medications, the prescriptions will be sent to a local pharmacy. Prescription service will not be available to those outside the area. As per Public Health Agency of Canada guidelines, yellow fever vaccine must be given at a designated yellow fever clinic.

After booking your appointment, you will be emailed a pre-travel questionnaire. There will be questions about your health, travel plans and vaccination history. This should be completed online and submitted 48 hours prior to your appointment. Once completed, you will be offered an appointment.

OHIP does not fund travel medicine, but some health insurance benefit plans will reimburse some or all of the cost. The consult fee is $85 per person, with a group discount if multiple people are on the same trip. There is a $25 vaccine administration fee which includes a vaccine record. For vaccine prices, please refer to the Vaccine Guide.

Yellow Fever Vaccine: Please note that there has been a nationwide shortage of yellow fever vaccine. We are currently offering a fractional dose – this has been studied and shown to provide excellent coverage for 1 year. If you require this vaccine, please call the clinic and we will offer you an appointment.

The clinic accepts Debit, Visa and MasterCard. Receipts for services will be provided so you can submit claims to health insurance benefit plans.

Please call the clinic at 905-525-9140 ext. 24881 or email the clinic at appointments@mdacc.ca to book your appointment today.
